Invitation for participation in the International Photo Competition

“M A R U B I   2003”

 “MARUBI 2003” is an International Competition of the contemporary photography organized in the Albanian National Gallery of Arts on 5 April 2003. This competition is opened with the initiative of the National Gallery of Arts  and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Republic of Albania.

“Marubi 2003” aims the promotion of the research in the field of contemporary photography and the continuity of the wonderful tradition inherited by the famous family Marubi dynasty in the Albanian Photography. For the first time in this event they will be exposed in a special section 30 works made by the photographer Bali, one of the pioneers of the Albanian photography.

This exposition is open to participants from Albania and international ones that will express their interest to participate. 

Of course, the establishment of such an international connection is necessary for the Albanian photographers as in every field of art and culture. In such a way the Albanian photographers will not only get in touch with the worldwide contemporary experience in photography, but they will have the possibility to endorse new dimensions of communication and participation with the world of artistic photography.

We suggest you to participate in this competition with some of your black and white works, which correspond to the vision of this edition. We inform you that in line with the vision of this edition, –Photography “polluted” by Art or Art “polluted” by Photography-, our preference will be photographic applications that witness creative courage, by exploring the large margin of possibilities that this genre offers, and by provoking the elimination of demarcation line which separates photography from art, even if shorter than the timing of this edition of MARUBI 2003.

Here they are some of the conditions for the eligibility of your applications for the participation in the exhibition “Marubi 2003”. 

       The competition “Marubi 2003” is open to every artist in the field of photography and does not have any age limit for the participants.

       There are not criteria regarding the medium of photography production work, the genre or the field of photography selected by the artist as well.

     There are not special conditions for the dimensions of the works selected for participation.

     The submitted photos should belong to a period of creation from March 2002 - March 2003.

      The number of submitted photos should be no more than 3 (three). The works should be matted and if possible framed, as well.

      The National Art Gallery will prepare the catalog of the exhibition, which will be delivered to the participants. For this reason every participant has to send via e-mail or CD photos of his works (10cm x 15 cm) 300 dpi, for the effect of the quality of the catalog.  

    The selection of the participants will be done by a jury composed by three members, personalities in the field of artistic photography.

       The deadline for the submission of works will be 20 March 2003.

Both of them. We are having a competition and an exhibition also, that will last one month.

 -What are the conditions of the participation?
The photos should belong to a period of creation from March 2002 until March 2003. The number of the photos to participate should not be more than 3 (three) and the works should be matted and if possible, framed, as well.

 -Should the submission be prints or slides?
Prints are preferable.  

- What size prints are required?
They are not limitations

 -How many slides or prints should be submitted?
Maximum 3 (three).

 -Are they acceptable Black & White photos or color also?
Black & White are preferable

 -Should prints be sent with mattes or simply send prints to be matted and framed by the organizer?
The works should be sent matted and framed by the artist himself.  

-Is it possible to send digital photos in the pre - selection phase just for consideration?
Yes.

 -Will the Gallery help to pay the cost of sending prints?
No

 -When it is possible to have back the photos that will participate?
One month after the closure of the exhibition.

 -Will the Gallery cover the expenses for sending back the photos selected for the competition to the participants?
Yes

 -Will it be made a catalog of the exhibition?
Yes

 -How many participants are expected to exhibit?
Around 100.
